Once again we welcome the annual Distil performance, featuring compositions by some of Scotland’s leading traditional composers, and performed with unique flair and expertise by the ensemble Mr McFall’s Chamber. The atmosphere of the evening is always special, with all the composers hearing their own work and those of their fellow composers for the very first time.
Distil is run by Hands up for Trad, who also organise the annual Scottish Trad Music Awards. Part of the project brings together the composers with musicians with considerable expertise and experience in performing and composition in different musical genres to challenge and inform them about composition skills.
This has been a wonderful resource and opportunity for those involved, inspiring many who have taken part in the 12 years Distil has been running, to further develop their work.
The list of composers for the 2018 performance will be added to the Distil web page when they are announced.
Tonights performance will include new work from: Michael Ferrie, Graham Mackenzie Pippa Reid-Foster, Carly Blain, John Mulhearn, Luc McNally and Jennifer Austin
And an improvised piece by: Su-a Lee, Mairi Campbell and Nicky Haire
