Uilleann Piping star Calum Stewart and his trio (Ronan Pellen on cittern, Yann Le Bozec on double bass), tour new album ‘Tales from the North’, inspired by Calum’s upbringing in Garmouth in the North of Scotland. Featuring primarily his own compositions, it’s a true reflection of Calum’s powerful and expressive playing, on what may be considered an Irish instrument, but with an undoubtedly Scottish sound.
Calum’s recent work includes recording with the London Philharmonic Orchestra at Abbey Road studios for composers Thomas Newman and Howard Shore, as well as collaborations with Nitin Sawhney and touring with Julie Fowlis’s band.
In support is solo artist Kirsty Law – innovative Edinburgh-based vocalist and song-maker, blending a “patchwork” style of songwriting which sees her layer original and traditional melodies, poems and text, incorporating contemporary sounds alongside her rich Scots vocal.
